After wearing the same 30 pieces (and really it was more like 15) during my 30-30 challenge I feel like those pieces are old friends after such an intimate acquaintance. These are the pieces I turn to when I’m in a hurry and fresh out of ideas, and in a huge rush.
Work has been really busy lately and my usual ETA at 7:30 has been pushed back to 7am just to keep up. This means that when I roll out of bed I’m still half asleep and putting together a creative outfit has to be quick. I wish I’d added a pop of color to this outfit but it was simple and I felt classy and that’s sometimes the best you can ask for on a harried morning.
As you can see the weather today was beautiful, still cool at about 65F, but I love that.
Thanks MN for taking the pic!

I wore my jean skirt without tights for the first time since October. It’s always such a strange thing to go bare-legged. It was still a little chilly so I ended up wearing my scarf and sweater (not pictured) almost all day.
I feel like dressing in the dark mornings is getting a bit difficult, as I’m in my winter rut of easy clothes – the same few pairs of bottoms and different shirts. Since finishing my 30-30 I’ve just replaced the featured skirt and pair of jeans for another – mostly because I need to take a bunch of things to the tailor.
Next week perhaps I’m going to try to wear the things I didn’t get around to wearing in my winter wardrobe one last time before I pack them up at the end of the month. My closet is small enough (or perhaps my wardrobe large enough) that the closet can’t hold both seasons at once.
My goal at the end of the month is to get everything clean and pack it away for next fall. The new season always brings a fresh outlook on what I have – things I’ve forgotten about and new ways to wear everything, so I’m excited for that – but to break it out too soon is a little headstrong. Who me? Headstrong?

I tried my hand at both adding color to this outfit and wearing the scarf around my neck. My sister got this from China for me and I love the graphic print and bright colors. However, wearing the smaller scarf still confounds me. All day I felt like a flight attendant. Maybe it was the skirt and the black/white color combination that made me feel waitressy. It might have worked better with jeans on the bottom – in fact now that I see my style inspiration they’re both wearing jeans.

Gone for the weekend, so packing light. Didn’t realize how cold the weather was going to be, so spent most of the weekend in the black blazer and scarf. I think this white shirt may be the 30-30 winner for most used item!
Wore this simple ensemble to church. Punched it up with the belt and kept warm with the scarf, which is large enough to double as a blanket in cold drafty air. It was rainy all day, which can mean frizzy poof-ball of curly hair, so twisted it up and back into the twists.
Valentine’s Day gets such a bad rap. But I like it. Sure, it’s fake, it’s cheesy but really, love is nothing if not a giant cliché! Plus winter needs as many little sunny spots as it can gather (I say that remembering how dreary winter can be in the Northern states). Who doesn’t need as much love as they can have in life? And who I ask doesn’t love red, pink and white?! Me for one!
In my mind I had thought about wearing this red dress (also worn here) over the top of the white shirt. Haven’t you seen a mannequin or two wearing something similar? On plastic perfection it looks cool and creative. It was really a no go for in real life. It looked like I was trying to be sexy with a strap-less dress but then got scared and added a shirt underneath. But I wanted to wearing the dress, so instead I wore it underneath!
Haven’t you seen those blurbs about going from work to date? Viola! I’m evening ready, all I have to do is take off the shirt! Unfortunately I don’t have exciting evening plans – it’s too crowded anyway – but I love how I get another red pencil skirt out of this dress!

Here’s the dress I promised I’d tell you about. I’m sad to say that the picture doesn’t do it justice. It was freezing outside (and by freezing I mean like 50 degrees) so I had to wear the black cardigan with the strap-less dress.
It has a taffeta bodice with boning, a velvet bow around the waist, and a cream-colored tulle skirt with crinolines to make it extra poofy. Normally I feel like this can make you look like a giant cupcake, but this was so classy – much more Betty Draper than little girl cupcake. Fortunately for now, you can see it online still – even though the pictures are very small. Click here.
The evening was so fun – a fancy dinner out on the town – that I totally forgot to take a picture that gave this outfit the attention it deserved. Maybe I’ll do something fun with the girls on Valentine’s Day and you can see a better picture then. Hey if it’s a 30-30 I have to wear it one more time!
I love this month, it has my birthday (which I love and never want to get annoyed by as I get older!) and Valentine’s day! People give V-Day a bad rap, but it’s nice, especially in a month that in some parts of the country has little else going for it! February can be that dreary dead time of year when there’s nothing to look forward to except the dreary dead March, my personal least favorite month.
Picked out my 30 for 30 (really it’s 30 for 28) late Monday night, and had a cool idea for showing you what I picked but work has been so busy there’s no time to goof off (imagine that!). So it will have to wait until later this week.
Here’s a really crummy indoor (read with flash) shot of what I wore yesterday. Didn’t get a chance to take the picture during the day – this daily picture taking business is harder than it may seem!

I love this outfit! It’s classy but has a touch of edge. In the past year I’d have to say that I’ve been wearing more black and silver, liking things that are more spunky and aggressive. My coloring looks best in the Autumn color range, browns, maroons, and army green. While I like those colors, I’ve been anything but in the mood for brown. My feeling is that you can’t dress in this young stand-offish way forever, so while I’m still in my twenties I’m going to embrace it.
The shirt doesn’t really show up that well because it was so bright out. But it’s a great modern camp shirt with sleeve tabs to keep them rolled up – another detail to love!
I love the geometric detailing on this skirt, the back is even better so I’ll have to remember to take a picture of it later.

It was a freezing cold day and raining so jeans and boots were in order. I felt a little like I was about to go ride horses but I like this outfit it was really warm and cozy when the office was 64 degrees this morning.
