Sequins in the City

All my 30-30 clothes are in the hamper waiting to be washed.  And I will get around to that eventually.  It’s such a nice feeling to put them behind me for a bit.  I feel like my options are endless now!  It did really help to recalibrate my feeling of having nothing in my closet!

I took the day off to spend with my parents who were in town visiting.  A morning hike and a delicious breakfast and then wandering around the mall and dinner out on the town.  It was a very nice day.

My outfit transitioned from day to evening nicely with loose inspiration from Isabel Marant’s F/W ’10 show.  Sequin leggings aren’t really a viable option for most of us but I loved the cropped pants with pointy shoes.

You may recall that I also have this sequin shirt in navy, yes, I own two colors of the same shirt – hey they were on sale!)  You can’t really tell from the picture but they’re matte sequins which I liked.

30-30 Day 19

Wore this simple ensemble to church.  Punched it up with the belt and kept warm with the scarf, which is large enough to double as a blanket in cold drafty air.  It was rainy all day, which can mean frizzy poof-ball of curly hair, so twisted it up and back into the twists.

30-30 Day 11

When I looked in my closet this morning I was for the first time feeling a little doubtful about being locked into these 30 pieces.  But when the going gets tough, the tough get creative.  I never would have mixed this top with this skirt, but necessity is a great thing.  Turns out, I love this mix!

I bought this skirt last fall at Forever 21 after being inspired by the great brocade looks from the Fall 2010 Balmain show (see pic at bottom of post) – see some more pictures of it here.   I love that it’s a little bit rock and roll and a little Louis XIV.  Brocade has nice memories for me, since my first “sexy grown-up” dress was a blue and tan brocade mini sheath (I wish I had a picture of it!).  I felt like a million dollars in that dress.

A Little Metal in Your Life

I love this outfit!  It’s classy but has a touch of edge.  In the past year I’d have to say that I’ve been wearing more black and silver, liking things that are more spunky and aggressive.  My coloring looks best in the Autumn color range, browns, maroons, and army green.  While I like those colors, I’ve been anything but in the mood for brown.  My feeling is that you can’t dress in this young stand-offish way forever, so while I’m still in my twenties I’m going to embrace it.

The shirt doesn’t really show up that well because it was so bright out.  But it’s a great modern camp shirt with sleeve tabs to keep them rolled up – another detail to love!

I love the geometric detailing on this skirt, the back is even better so I’ll have to remember to take a picture of it later.
