I got this shirt from a lady at work who said that she loved it but every time she put it on she just couldn’t see herself wearing it out of the house. After seeing me bedecked in some other sequin item she brought it to me, “You’ll love this” she promised. And I do!
It’s a cashmere tank top with sequin panels on the front. It’s crazy shiny and wearing it alone might blind someone if I stand in the sun at the wrong angle, but worn as a layer it works wonderfully.
The loose weave knit of the light sweater (can’t see it in the drawing) as the top layer let’s the sequins poke through from underneath and isn’t too heavy.
I’m squeezing the last life out of my multi-print leopard flats. This may have been the last day I wore them since they’re officially falling apart. I’m sad, but at least they got some happy wearing out of them!
For some reason sequins seem very winter to me, maybe icy and a little harsh. It is probably something I’ll phase out for the summer months, but this made a great transitional outfit.

All my 30-30 clothes are in the hamper waiting to be washed. And I will get around to that eventually. It’s such a nice feeling to put them behind me for a bit. I feel like my options are endless now! It did really help to recalibrate my feeling of having nothing in my closet!
I took the day off to spend with my parents who were in town visiting. A morning hike and a delicious breakfast and then wandering around the mall and dinner out on the town. It was a very nice day.
My outfit transitioned from day to evening nicely with loose inspiration from Isabel Marant’s F/W ’10 show. Sequin leggings aren’t really a viable option for most of us but I loved the cropped pants with pointy shoes.
You may recall that I also have this sequin shirt in navy, yes, I own two colors of the same shirt – hey they were on sale!) You can’t really tell from the picture but they’re matte sequins which I liked.

Almost over!! Are you as excited for this exercise to be done as I am?! Despite my boredom I tried to put together an outfit I’d really feel good in today. Success! I feel great and I love the color combination of plummy purple and light pink. With just a few sequins thrown in for good measure!
I realized last week that I really only picked out two bottoms that I can wear to work day in and day out. Two bottoms for 30 days is a little rough. The other pair of jeans requires heels (can’t do that all day when I am on my feet) and the other skirts are great but too fancy or too eye-catching to work as neutrals. Well I made it – despite my picking mistakes.
It’s my birthday!
I got my hair blown out for the occasion. It’s big and curly – va va voom!
I am leaving work a little early today so I can prep for the dinner party I’m throwing for a few friends. On Monday you’ll get to see my two birthday dresses on!
Thanks to Veronica – who’s back from the flu for the lovely picture.
Have a wonderful weekend all – I sure will!!
It’s weird how many outfits you can garner from 30 pieces. Which makes you realize how much excess one really has. 30 is probably 20% of my entire closet, and I wouldn’t say I have an excessive amount of clothing. It just collects over the years and it’s fun to buy new things. Part of this challenge is that there’s no shopping for the whole month. It’s like a recalibration of your closet value. After wearing the same 30 things you begin to look at everything you own with new eyes. And really, I think mostly we tend to wear the same few things anyway until we get tired of them. Well I do at least.
I like the mix of something that used to be evening wear, with the day-time denim work shirt. I got some compliments on the combination, “it’s gutsy!”
I wish it had more waste, maybe next time I add a belt? I feel like when I look at this picture the skirt makes me feel short. What do you think?

My mom got me this shirt pre-Christmas as she said she wanted me to have things that sparkled for the holidays. My sequin affair started a year ago last fall, and since then I think I must have enough sequined shirts to wear one a day for a week. I love how this one tapers off, as if a snow drift of sequins landed on my shoulders and is starting to melt.
