After seeing this skirt from Talbots (which was so much like the skirt I already owned) I decided to build an outfit around the styling in their ad.
I love the look of the classic military shirt. The shirt I had included in my 30-30 (see it featured here) was worn in heavy rotation. I realized it wouldn’t be a terrible idea to invest in another version of the same shirt. While shopping with my mom at Chico’s I discovered this lovely classic, loose version in ivory. It has that timeless American look. The first runway picture from the Ruffian S/S 2011 show and the second and third pictures from classic American designer, Ralph Lauren’s S/S 2011.
Normally I don’t shop at Chico’s, but I think it’s also good practice to find things wherever they might be hiding. A good wardrobe does not have to all come from Gucci to be stylish, Anthropologie to be creative, or Good Will to be cheap. Do you ever find wonderful things in unexpected places? If so where?

My sister is galavanting about China – see her adventures here – and since I mentioned her here, I thought I would share this picture she sent me. And not only is she classy – she’s also a physicist!
I’m beginning to think about clothes I want to wear during the spring months (short as they are here in LA). I came across this lovely catalog from Talbots. Talbots used to be such a fuddy duddy grandma type store. They’re either changed their look or I’m older now – could be both – and I love the pictures from this season’s catalog.
It’s classy and timeless and the way I envision myself dressing when I’m a grown-up (some day).
Perhaps my spring wardrobe could take some inspiration from this while also keeping a bit of my youthful trendiness that I’m using up in the last years of my 20’s.
This picture reminds me of my sister (who has almost exactly this classy style) and me. We had so much fun getting dressed and sharing clothes when we lived together in college. I miss her so much!
